Sacroiliac Joint Pain

What is the sacroiliac joint?

The sacroiliac or SI joints are the links between your spinal column and pelvis. Its what allows you to bend forward and have your legs stationary. They help to absorb shock and stabilize the body.

SI dysfunction is a common cause of back pain and can contribute to pain in the jaw muscles and joints.

What Causes SI Dysfunction?

There are 2 causes. Primary: caused by a traumatic event such as a fall, improper lift, or sudden movement. Secondary: Caused by bad posture or habits over time.

Diagnosing SI

A postural evaluation is needed. Questions also are asked such as “location and intensity of pain”, “Does the pain cause you to limp?”, “Does it hurt to get up from a seated position or bend over?” “Has the pain spread to any other areas such as the thigh, groin, buttocks, foot, or leg?”

Can Chiropractic Help Me With this Condition?

Chiropractic can offer treatment programs to help relieve pain, stabilize your posture, and restore normal movement to joints. They may use chiropractic manipulations (adjustments) as well as exercise focused on building muscle to support joint stability. Along with adjustments and exercise, orthotics may be custom created to slide into your shoes. Orthotics help restore balance and stop your body from overcompensating wrongly for weakened joints or pain.

Support Pillows

Cervical support pillows for the low back and pelvic area may be recommended for sitting and sleeping. These can help keep your spinal alignment and hold an adjustment longer for great results.

Recovery time varies from patient to patient.
