If you deal with seasonal allergies here in Southwest Florida you know the pain of the itchy watery eyes, headache, and runny nose. While you may be a perfectly healthy person your immune system hyper responds to allergens in our air and you end up looking and feeling almost like you have the flu.
It is distracting and even bordering on incapacitative. You may have struggled to find relief with over the counter treatments that just don’t cut it and even prescription medications which can make you feel out of sorts, tired, and even moody.
The one saving grace in the allergy medication world that seems to work on pretty much everyone is pseudoephedrine – its found in Allegra-D, Zyrtec-D, and Advil Cold/Sinus. The thing is you cannot take it for longer than 2 weeks and we know the allergy season here is longer than that.
We have some natural suggestions to help boost your immunity to allergens. They can be taken in conjunction with medications until they get into your system fully enough to really help.
Eat Local Raw Honey – The bees pollinate local flowers in order to make honey. That pollen works almost the same way a vaccination does, building immunity through direct contact, over time. So pick some up at the next farmer’s market.
Bromelain – This anti-inflammatory is amazingly helpful when it comes to allergy relief. It will help sinus swelling and congestion making it easier to breathe and reduce pain from inflammation.
Boswellia Serrata – Helps to reduce inflammation and has shown great benefits with asthma and breathing issues, allergies, and even arthritis.
Quercetin – Quercetin is an anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, antioxidant, and fights allergies both respiratory and skin incredibly well.
Turmeric – This is known as one of the worlds best anti-inflammatory agents in the spice world. Taking it daily can alleviate pain, swelling, and yes, even allergic reactions!
Vitamin C – Taking high doses of Vitamin C can greatly boost your chance of warding off allergies. Do note though that Vitamin C will reach a level in your body that may cause diarrhea. If you get to that level, reduce and you will be fine. That effect is temporary.
When taken together this power-packed combo helps nearly all patients fight allergies. It really is amazing what nature can do!
