The 6 Categories of Nutrients

Simply put, proper nutrition keeps us healthy. If you neglect to have the right combination of these 6 items, it will be very difficult to live a healthy lifestyle or achieve any weight loss or fitness goals you may have.

1. Protein

2. Carbohydrates

3. Fats

4. Vitamins

5. Minerals

6. Water

Good Nutrition Provides The Body with What It Needs To Build and Repair

High protein foods are broken down into amino acids which are used to repair and create muscle tissue. If you are regularly physically active your recovery time will be faster if you consume enough protein. Protein also benefits your nervous system and your immune system as well.

Nutrition Gives You Energy

Nutrition is fuel for the body. Carbohydrates help your body sustain energy throughout the day. When you ingest carbohydrates you release a hormone known as insulin. Insulin helps to store the carbs either as muscle or fat. This store of carbohydrates known as glycogen gives you the getup and go needed to maintain through the day as well as perform any exercise routine.

Can Fats Be Good?

First off, let’s get one thing straight. Fat itself does not make you fat. You need fat in order for your body to run. Your brain needs it as does your skin and other organs. Stored fats are actually the main source of energy.

Minerals and Vitamins

Just like the macronutrients both vitamins and minerals are needed to be able to function properly. When you are deficient in any particular one symptoms will begin to present. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can cause a whole host of health issues from headaches to brittle nails.

Drink up!

One of the easiest ways to attain ideal health is to make sure you are drinking enough water on a daily basis. The human body is 65% water. We need it to survive and to thrive. Juice, Sodas, coffee, alcohol – none of them count towards your water consumption. In fact, caffeinated sodas, as well as coffee and even iced tea, can actually be dehydrating. Ideally, most people should be drinking a gallon of water per day or as close to that as possible for optimal hydration and flushing of toxins.
