How is Your Knee Health?

The old adage “If you don’t use it you lose it” could easily be applied to knee health. Many of us who have lived slow lifestyles and worked in sedentary conditions can attest to this. The fact is that healthy strong knees require motion.

When not moved or used the cartilage in your knees begins to weaken and break down. This cause the ligaments in the knee to lose strength and become lax. This can result in pain in the knee. The problem is the more pain or discomfort is felt, the more time resting a person tends to spend, which only makes the problem worse and can even result in degeneration.

The best solution to knee issues, although painful at first, is movement and exercise and even physical therapy. Chiropractic can also help to make a difference in alignment and gate. When your stride is even and consistent it will help your body stay in balance and pain-free.

Healthy knees require an ongoing lubrication of synovial fluid in the joint. This provides oxygen and nutrition to the knee aiding in shock absorption and reducing friction. When you stay still too much the flow of this fluid slows down. and can result in stiffness and even arthritis.

What you can do to keep your knees healthy

Start a walking routine. This is the best way to rehabilitate sedentary knees.

Walk daily but start slow. Start with just a 5 to 10-minute walk. Your body will adapt and you will feel less pain and more energy allowing the length of time to increase. Over a period of three to four weeks increase till you are at a good 30-minute walk at a brisk pace.

Walking just 30 minutes 5 times a week will give you a great baseline to be healthy enough to begin other exercise programs.

Additionally, regular chiropractic care can also help you get back to peak performance by correcting areas of nerve irritation and joint dysfunction.
