The Chiropractic Treatment Experience – What it’s Like to Visit a Chiropractor

Any time you have never done something before it can seem intimidating. When it comes to a chiropractic visit, there is no need to worry. Chiropractic is one of the few modalities in medicine where the results can be felt almost immediately.

Upon arrival you will be asked to fill out a medical history and questionnaire in regard to how you are feeling, what is bothering you, and how they can help.

You will have a chance to chat with the doctor before beginning any treatment and depending on your condition they may administer ice, heat, hydro massage, or even ultrasound before a session.

The Adjustments

Getting adjusted is easy. You do not need a paper gown as you do at some doctor’s offices. Your street clothes are just fine. Your physician will ask you to start either face up or face down laying on the table depending on what they choose to work on first. You will be guided and directed throughout the entire process making things very simple. Breathe and allow your body to relax. As you breathe out the adjustments are done and your body easily is guided into the correct position. This often will make a crack or popping sound. This is not bone on bone or anything breaking. It is the sound of built up gasses being released from the joints. It may sound a little scary, but it is nothing to be afraid of. That noise means your body is allowing release to happen and once those misalignments are gone, any pain you have been experiencing in that area will likely follow.

Adjustments can take place anywhere along the spinal column, the neck, hips, ankles, knees, arms, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even fingers.

Once your chiropractor has finished all of your adjustments you may be instructed to ice (to help alleviate any inflammation), and at home exercises or stretches may also be recommended, as well as follow up appointments scheduled.

The Results

Many patients report feeling better right away or within the next day or so after a visit. Depending on severity of your subluxations it may take more than one or even a small series of treatments to complete the changes and get your body use to holding properly in the right alignment.

What you should never feel is worse after and adjustment. Slight soreness almost like a hard work out is normal. Pain, sharpness, or shooting pains are not. If you ever experience anything like that call immediately.

While chiropractic is great for emergency pain please don’t wait till you are in pain to go. Schedule regular chiropractic visits monthly and be proactive in your healthcare.

Bonus tips: Taking Bromelian, Arnica and or Turmeric can drastically help lower inflammation throughout the body. When used in combination with chiropractic adjustments pain levels have shown to lower if not work themselves out all together given a little bit of time.

Chiropractic is a very easy positive experience that can offer you better health for a lifetime.
