Pregnancy can be one of the most amazing and joyous times of a woman’s life. You have been gifted with a soon to come a cute little new member of your family. While happiness may be abundant within you and your partner, it can take a toll on your body and affect how you feel physically.
As the pregnancy progresses you add on the additional weight that your body is not used to carrying. As it is mostly centered in the front of your body, the natural tendency is to try and compensate. That has women leaning backward at an unnatural angle. That pregnancy lean can lead to back pain.
Pregnancy-related back pain may also be tied in with pelvic pain. Combined those two areas can be a doozy. It can exhaust you and put you out of commission.
In a recent study, researchers recruited 115 pregnant women who were experiencing pelvic and back pain. They also had not had chiropractic treatment within the last three months. Each then received chiropractic care, adjustments, and are specified by individual chiropractors based on the woman’s care needed.
Information and results were tabulated at increments of one week, one month, six months and one year. The outcome found that the level of improvement in pain increased as time went forward.
On week one 52% of the women said yes, they were experiencing a reduction in pain. That number increased to 70% at the one month mark. At three months, a whopping 90% said they were noticeably in less back and pelvic pain. One year from the start date, 88% still said they attributed their decreased pain levels to the chiropractic treatments.
